Pennsylvania Humanities Council and Pennsylvania Cable Network have joined forces to launch Humanities on the Road, a new arts and culture-themed television show. Hosted by Tracey Matisak, the series gives 3.3 million households televised-access to Pennsylvania's foremost humanities experts (including artists, writers, performers and scholars) and an inside look at different cultural sites throughout the state.
PCN already has picked up Humanities on the Road for two seasons, with the first season slated to start shooting with Jump Street's hosting of Can't Tell a Live, Peach Cobbler Pie! with storyteller Linda Goss in Harrisburg on April 10. Season 1 ends with the Trinity Center for Urban Life's hosting of The Black Mozart with concert pianist Charles Pettaway on July 8.
Award-winning storyteller Linda Goss explores African American folk traditions.
Humanities on the Road is the next generation of PHC's collaboration with the media, which began with Humanities Live. Like Humanities Live, Humanities on the Road also features award-winning broadcast journalist Tracey Matisak, as well as talent from PHC's speakers bureau. Humanities on the Road is designed to engage viewers in a discussion of the arts, history and literature and includes interactive presentations on topics ranging from Nancy Drew to African American folk traditions to John Updike to Pennsylvania German culture.
Filmed in front of a live audience, each episode shines a spotlight on some of Pennsylvania's most intriguing cultural landmarks and communities. View the complete taping schedule for Season 1. Season 1 shows to broadcast on PCN in the fall. The second season to film and broadcast in 2011.
