Arts Commentary: Perspectives on the Arts fosters nonfiction work which educates
the broad general public about the contemporary arts. The program also promotes
arts commentators' endeavors to reach new or larger audiences.
Arts Commentary projects concentrate on the contemporary arts or issues of significance to the arts today. Funded projects explore many perspectives of the arts; educate the public by interpreting the significance of the arts and examining them from critical or historical perspectives; and lead to presentations for the public—publications, media projects and educational programs.
The program recognizes work in all media and is open to the full range of Pennsylvanians producing arts commentary—journalists, broadcast and electronic media professionals, filmmakers, artists, scholars, arts educators and nonprofit professionals.
Arts Commentary is one of the few initiatives in the U.S. dedicated to arts criticism. It is a partnership between PHC and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and is part of PCA's Individual Creative Artists Fellowship program.
