Commonwealth Speakers:Programming Suggestions

Silas Simmons, age 111, is a former Negro Leagues baseball player. Bob Allen's Souls of Black Baseball presentation explores the rich history of black baseball as played in Pennsylvania.
Planning a program when public interest in a topic is higher than usual can help draw attendees to your program.
We hope that you will bring a Commonwealth Speaker to your community in 2008-09 on such occasions as:
|
Black History Month Women's History Month National Poetry Month National Library Week Arts and Humanities Month |
February March April April October |
You also might want to connect your programming to topics that are receiving national attention. Values and Public Life contains presentations examining community development, political dissent, global warming, race and class, and nuclear disarmament. If you have a working relationship with local media, a series could be jointly planned to coincide with special feature coverage in the newspaper or on radio and television.
Of course, we hope that you will apply for a Speaker just because you think they're neat as well.
