Planning a program when public interest in a topic is higher than usual can help draw attendees into your program. Black History Month (February) may be a good time for presentations on The African American Experience, and Women's History Month (March) provides a well-known opportunity to look at Women Through History.

You also might want to connect your programming to topics that are receiving national attention. Debates and Controversies contains talks examining civil liberties, aging, and intelligent design. If you have a working relationship with local media, a series could be jointly planned to coincide with special feature coverage in the newspaper or on radio and television.
